The Wanteds (Stephanie Smith, 2011, 87 min., HD)
Full of Red Bull and relentless optimism, at age 34 Tommy Harrington is embarking on his first tour of the country as a one-man band. Sober after years of addiction and energized by his new album, he prepares for the tour he feels will make him– but days before the tour, his ex-girlfriend returns to confide that she is pregnant. Shaken but undeterred, he begins the journey and finds himself on a wild ride that takes him through the landscape of his tormented childhood, into an outrageous assortment of performance venues- from storage lockers to rock palaces to basements and house parties, stripping the layers of his life back to reveal the tragic relationship that defines his music and his life.
Interspersed with interviews with family and friends, we ride shotgun through a story tragic and hopeful, funny and heartbreaking, traversing a big country – literally and metaphorically, as Tommy attempts to assemble the jagged puzzle pieces of his life. Unfolding into an story as singular as Tommy himself, The Wanteds is Spinal Tap laid into Shakespeare, Crumb crossed with Quixote — a surprising and personal document of a man facing the full weight of his world who ultimately finds peace in the last place he was looking.
“Unexpectedly dark and intimate….Smith’s gradual unveiling of Harrington’s choice between the only refuge he’s ever known and the opportunity to rectify the damaged father-son dynamics in his life is utterly wrenching.” – The Portland Mercury
“This is an amazing movie and a must see for anyone who loves rock and roll films” – By the Light of the Stereo
“The Graduate of rock and roll films” – David Cress, Producer of Paranoid Park and Portlandia

The Wanteds is the first full-length documentary feature for Director Stephanie Smith and Producer Dave Camp. Both have an extensive history playing and touring in their own respective rock bands, which gave them a unique understanding and connection with the story. Through working as a casting director and assistant director Stephanie expanded her interest in music by producing and directing a series of music videos for Portland bands. She has produced and directed numerous short films, including the acclaimed 16mm short ‘Asleep at the Wheel’. Dave Camp is a founding partner at Lift Music, composing music for television and film since 1999 including commercials for Kodak, Nike, Wal-Mart and Target, and a long list of television shows, most recently, for Millionaire Matchmaker and Axe Men.
The Wanteds is a product of Portland’s burgeoning indie film scene, showcasing an array of local talent, including Dave Camp’s original score, Tommy Harrington’s original songs, sound mix by David C Hughes, and post-production by Chris Stevens at Flip Doubt.
