History
In the fall of 1999, Sound Unseen introduced itself as a unique, cutting edge “films-on-music” festival in Minneapolis. Even during its humble beginnings, the festival drew much attention as an idea whose time had come. Music and Film naturally flow together and play off of one another. The Sound Unseen founders knew this, the directors since then knew it, and now it is time for a much larger audience to know it. Sound Unseen has striven to its 10th year and has established itself as one of the premiere Films-On-Music festivals in the country, but more importantly as an important and vital part of the regional cultural scene.
Hundreds of music, film and art fans will crowd theaters, clubs, galleries and warehouses throughout the Twin Cities for Sound Unseen’s annual Fall festival and year-round special events. Documentaries, rare concert footage, short films, animation, music videos, special performances, gallery exhibitions and dozens of live music events highlighting both local and national acts separate this festival from the usual outdoor mega concerts, film festivals and tours. What began as an underground film festival with 500 attendees has grown to an anticipated array of music, film, new media and art.
Sound Unseen has received press coverage in all major local media including The Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, City Pages and Vita.mn; local radio stations The Current, Drive 105, KQRS, MPR, Radio K and television news including NBC, FOX and CBS. National media mentions have included Rolling Stone magazine and AIF Independent magazine of New York.
